- Birthplace of Antonio Banderas, perhaps this is his cousin
It’s always tapas time! Well, actually, if you live in Spain, it’s not. On my first trip to the Spanish Pyrenees my stomach was the first to learn that lunch is not served after three in the afternoon. It was still bustling with customers but the proprietor had locked the doors and had no intention of letting us in. We waited until 8:00 pm to eat in that little, one restaurant town.
Now, I may not speak like a Spaniard, but at least my hunger pangs are synchronized with theirs. A minimal breakfast, usually just coffee and a biscuit, is the customary way to start the day. This explains why at 1:00 a stiff game of musical chairs is played at the more popular tapas bars, with waiting customers ready to pounce on a free table.
Wait too long and every venue will be closed
Popular tapas: patatas bravas (potatoes with spicy sauce), fried cod, eggplant fries drizzled with honey and sangria to wash it down
Towards the end of tapas time in Malaga
Tapas time even for the pigeons, Malaga
Interior of Bodegas El Pimpi, Malaga, a nice place for wine and tapas
- by 4:30 pm most places are closed
If you happen to be in Seville like I was last year with Zahavah, I recommend going on a tapas tour lead by Shawn Hennessey. Read more about the tastier way to visit the city in the Wall Street Journal. Shawn and I met again in Malaga for the best bull’s tail (rabo de toro) burger I have ever eaten (her recommendation of course).

Thanks Yaelian, Most of the pictures are in Malaga actually, as part of Andalucia, they also have a tapas culture.
I liked your other banner better. Those fruits are not from here are they?
This is a beautiful and appetizing post as usual! You made me want to go to Spain asap!
Tapas without me? Sounds like a great trip.
